Unique Gifts for Father's Day

Dads are one-half of adorable parents who generally leave disciplining tactics to their better half & spoil their kids rotten. What better day, then, than Father’s Day to reciprocate all the love & affection showered upon you?

One of the unique gift ideas for Father's Day is a spa package. That’s right; why should only ladies have all the fun?! I would select a special spa package for my Dad. All those body muscles which strained at work so that I could have a comfortable life; those feet which constantly pressed on the clutch & brakes when I was dropped off to school, college & exam centres; those hands which held me tight to stop the tears….they deserve a rejuvenating touch. Booking a spa package well in advance at the Club Oasis Fitness Centre & Spa would definitely be top priority for Father’s Day.

Next, my Dad would deserve a special lunch. It would not be an expensive meal at a five-star hotel, but at a restaurant which serves his favourite dish of kothimbir wadis and thalipeeth: Aaswad Restaurant.

At the end of the meal, I would definitely surprise him with a gift. That would be a trendy cell phone which is easy to use. My choice: the Samsung Corby. With its unique Fashion Jackets, the colour of the Samsung Corby can be changed. Bluetooth connectivity & a 2MP camera are some of the many wonderful features of the Samsung Corby which would make it an ideal gift for my Dad.

Naturally, I would not forget the most important thing: to hug my Dad and say “I love you, Dad”. More than my gifts, that warm embrace and those words of love will surely brighten up his special day.

Don’t Dads just deserve to be spoiled rotten?!

Father's Day Gifts

When was the last time you hugged your Dad and said, “I love you” ? That query set you thinking, right? I am sure it was when you were a ten-year-old!

It is sad, but true, that only when the persons we love the most go from our lives that we really really realize how much they truly loved us and their impact on our lives. Your Dad is one such person. That is why there are birthdays and a day named Father’s Day ever year – to remind us to reciprocate that love.

So what would be my choice of gifts? I decided that the gifts I selected would be ones that would be useful and not just gifts that would be showpieces in a cupboard.
First and foremost I would replace my Dad’s old chair with a brand new upholstered chair. That back which gave me piggy-back rides as a kid needed a comfortable lumbar support and the hands that embraced me with love required soft hand rests. A Staples Luxura chair would be ideal, with its adjustable-height feature and soft cushioning. Sure, it is expensive at over Rs.5000/-; but then love cannot be considered in terms of monetary value.

Next, I would buy a calculator. My Dad constantly adds up figures on a small calculator that requires extra jabbing of the fingers to get it to work properly & has a faint screen. I would replace it with one of those new ones that cost a little over Rs.2000/-
This type has a nice wide screen and is easy to use, not to mention with a better range of calculating facilities.
My third gift would be one that is used on a daily basis – a pen. The Luxor Pilot Hi-Techpoint pen with a price tag of Rs.50/- comes in various ink colours.
I would buy the ones my Dad uses often – black, blue and red.

All these gifts would, naturally, be accompanied with a lovely bunch of flowers, a warm hug and the words “I love you, Dad. Happy Fathers’ Day!”

I just wish my Dad was still around to celebrate Father’s Day…

What will be your gift for your Valentine this year if you are given a budget of Rs. 8000.00 ?

Let’s suppose I won a Valentine Day contest and the prize of Rs.8000/- came with the condition that I had to spend it solely on my Valentine. Hmmm…the moot point is that I don’t have a Valentine in the strict romantic sense of the word. However, considering that now-a-days just about anybody can be considered a Valentine, I would splurge the Rs.8000/- on my mother.
First, I would ensure the local florist delivers a bright bouquet of colourful blooms (Rs. 100/-) at our doorstep before breakfast. My mother simply loves greenery of any kind, whether it is a plant with just leaves or a long-stemmed flower. So Valentine Day must begin with a gift of flowers, a warm hug, and the magic words "I love you".

The next thing to do to make 14th February special for my mother would be to hire a chauffeur-driven car for half a day. This gift selection idea is to ensure that my mother can visit all those places that she would like to but could not; at her very senior age, it is difficult to get aboard a local train or a bus and the local taxis are not exactly comfort-oriented.

Since generations we are a book-crazy family and at every possible free time we are reading. My mother is no less a voracious reader, so I would definitely give her a gift voucher from the local Crossword Store to purchase whichever books she desires. She also loves watching old Hindi films of Dev Anand, Madhubala, and the like. So my gift voucher of Rs. 2000/- would let her buy as many books and DVDs she wants!

Taking her out to lunch is a great idea, but due to dietary restrictions not feasible. Hence, I would personally cook the simple meal she loves – dal-rice and bhindi, which is her favourite vegetable. After she has had her afternoon rest, I would take her out in the car I rented (that would cost between Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 2000/-). She had once mentioned her wish to cruise along Marine Drive and visit some of the shops in South Mumbai. One of these is the Bombay Store , where I would let my mother purchase gifts from the home accessories section where she would love browsing through perfumed candles, cutlery, furnishings, etc. At the end of the day, with any money left over, I would rent the car again for the next day (the hours depending on much cash still left) for another enjoyable cruise to some other part of the city. So Valentine Day would continue…
