India Study Channel

Like Alice who stumbled into Wonderland, I accidentally fell headlong into the world of India Study Channel (ISC).

Launched by an enterprising B. Tech. student, Timmy John, in July ’07, this educational website has grown by leaps and bounds. ISC is managed by Webmasters Tony and Jose Mathew.

The India Study Channel website is like a massive chat room buzzing with ideas and views thrown back and forth between members. The members (there are more than 60,000!) are an eclectic mix of students, housewives, doctors, engineers, stock brokers … in short, a blend of different professions. Members contribute by providing information on colleges, courses, past years’ exam papers, projects, sites that they liked, and their interview experiences.

The India Study Channel Forum is a wonderful platform for an exchange of views. You can post your views to subjects being discussed. There is a wide range of subjects, from friendship to cricket, global warming to parent-children’s relationships. You can post messages yourself too, such as if you have a query on your latest mobile phone or need guidance for an engineering course.

You get points for every query / reply that you post, as also for every contribution in each of the sections. So it makes you eager to increase your points and get promoted to a higher level. New members begin at the bronze level and can soon make their way up to the silver, gold levels, diamond and platinum levels.

Members contributions could also bring in earnings through the Google AdSense revenue sharing program in addition to getting cash credits for awards such as Member of the Week, Member of the Month, etc.

It does take a little time to get around the site and understand the correct places to post messages. However, once you are familiar with the workings of the site, you will be totally hooked to ISC!

Best of all: it is free! Anybody can join up. You don’t need to pay any registration fees nor any fees for accessing information from the site.
